Children's Garden

The Eastside Children's Garden Project started in 1996 when the community Design Center of Minnesota planted a garden on an empty corner on St. Paul 's East Side . The project's goal was to help children become part of community life and to develop skills around food and the environment that would serve them for life. The project now operates seven gardens, where children learn how to tend the gardens and see the results of their caring labor. They learn about health, nutrition, the environment, job and career opportunities and working as a team in the community. For more information on the Project, call (651) 228-7073.

The children are also learning how to make a variety of products using the vegetables, herbs and flowers that they have grown. They also have a cookbook for sale, with recipes using wonderful fresh produce. This cookbook was a combined effort of the Project and our Les Dames chapter. To purchase some of these wonderful items please look for them at Cooks of Crocus Hill, Alfresco Casual Living, Lunds and Byerly's.
